Reporting systems and innovation

Norway’s Fisheries Directorate boosts transparency and control with real-time data and automated tracking in innovative reporting systems.

These systems focus on the collection of real-time data related to vessel location, fishing activity, and catch documentation to ensure compliance with national and international regulations.

The introduction of Electronic Reporting Systems (ERS) and Vessel Monitoring Systems (VMS) has been a critical step in modernising Norway’s fisheries management. These systems enable comprehensive catch and activity tracking, allowing the Directorate to monitor fishing practices with greater accuracy and efficiency. Read more about ERS and VMS.

In addition, the Directorate of Fisheries in Norway has launched the Catch ID Program to develop a fully integrated documentation system. This initiative follows a "compliance by design" approach, utilising third-party technology to automatically record all harvested marine resources in real-time with minimal or no human intervention. The system also ensures that relevant data is readily available to monitoring, control, and surveillance (MCS) authorities. Read more about the CatchID program.
