Reporting of catches

Registered fishing camps are obliged to report catches to the fisheries authorities.

Fishing camps are obliged to report all catches, whether landed or released, of certain species (minimum sizes apply).

There is reason to believe that the amount of fish caught in tourist fishing, but not taken ashore, is significant. This applies to several of the species covered by the reporting obligations, such as halibut, cod and pollock. Such information is important in order to assess the development of the various stocks. For example, it is significant if changes over time in the amount of fish that are taken ashore, coincide with an increase or decrease in the amount of fish that are put back out.
